Temperature Measurement

Temperature measurement here runs from simple dial and digital thermometers through infrared and thermal imaging to the RTD probes and reference sensors used in calibration work.

FLIR leads the thermal imaging range, while Fluke Calibration, Ametek Jofra and Additel cover reference probes and calibration-grade sensors, and Dwyer Instruments and Fluke cover general industrial and HVAC measurement. The main specification decision is contact against non-contact. Infrared and thermal imaging measure surface temperature only and depend on knowing the emissivity of that surface, which makes them excellent for electrical inspection and mechanical survey work but unsuitable as a calibration reference. Contact probes, particularly four-wire RTDs, are what you need when the number has to hold up in a calibration certificate.
