Precision Balances
Precision balances sit between analytical balances and bench scales, typically reading to between 1 mg and 0.1 g with capacities from a few hundred grams to several kilograms.
Sartorius, Mettler Toledo, Ohaus, Radwag, Adam Equipment and Precisa cover the range. For most work the deciding specification is readability against the smallest quantity you weigh, since going finer than the process requires adds settling time and sensitivity to draughts without improving the result. Repeatability matters more than readability if you are comparing samples rather than reporting absolute mass. Internal motorised calibration costs more but removes the need to handle external weights, which is worth it where the balance is checked daily. Consider whether you need a draught shield, as the milligram range is affected by air movement that would be invisible at coarser resolutions. Tell us the smallest quantity, the capacity and the tolerance you are working to.
The Adam Equipment EPB 723e Equinox Precision Balance offers high-precision weighing with 0.001g readability and 720g capacity. Ideal for laboratory, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications, it features auto-calibration, a large backlit display, and GLP/GMP compliance.
Sartorius MCE2202S0-S00 Cubis II precision balance with 2,200 g capacity, 0.01 g readability, multiple weighing units, GLP/GMP features, and RS-232 data output.
